Crawfish season is a special time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This beloved season falls between mid-winter and late spring and is a beautiful thing to behold. The air is crisp, and the sun is bright. The wonderful aroma of the boil can be found in backyards, parks, restaurants, and bars. These familiar wafts of flavor delight the nose and create big smiles for all around. There is no such thing as a stranger at a crawfish boil. Friends, both new and old, surround the crawfish table and create an instant fellowship. The perfect crawfish boil usually has great music and tons of laughs. It truly is one of my most favorite times of year.

My wife will swear by this statement for many reasons, maybe it's because two of our three sons play soccer currently or maybe it was her many years playing the game. The saying is "The soccer fields are the coldest place around".

If your child plays soccer on the Coast from Pass Christian over to Gulfport and up to Saucier, they most likely play in the South Mississippi Soccer Club which holds games at the County Soccer Complex out on County Farm Road. Our season is from November through early March; winter by all accounts.

It could be 65 degrees and sunny but the moment you step out at the soccer fields the temperature drops, the wind blows cold, and your spine begins to shiver. Surrounded by rolling hills and trees, the soccer complex is about the most unobstructed land in the area therefore the wind catches it just right. Through the valleys and over the hills. It is in fact cold!

We do what we love as a culture. Soccer is a way of life in Mississippi. Each week we bundle up, we brace ourselves for the cold, and still shiver. But...it's worth it. The moment the goal is scored, the second you see the smile on your child's face, the cold fades. The warmth of your heart spreads throughout your body and the coldest place in Southern Mississippi suddenly becomes the warmest in town.

Harrison County is home to several large places that are lit day and night by lanterns, lamps, and ceiling lights as well as neon and specialty lighting. Although abundant in space, decor, people and fun, these buildings have no clocks displayed. Why? The object is to maximize the fun you're having without you noticing how much time has gone by.
