I'm embraced by a sense of nostalgia in this Saturday snapshot of small-town life in Long Beach. Heading into the office on a Saturday, I make my way down Jeff Davis Ave, the downtown main street of Long Beach. Activity is bustling with locals and visitors alike, strolling leisurely and enjoying the unhurried pace. Bathed in summer sun, the storefronts of quaint boutiques and restaurants cast long shadows on the sidewalks. It's Christmas in July today and many are making their way to the Town Green. Cars pause and offer a friendly wave that invites the mother pushing a stroller and the older couple holding hands to cross before them. From local honey to handmade jewelry, vendors have their talents on display, spread out under the Oaks. The unique gifts that boast coastal flare have the lawn swarming with shoppers. From the splash pad you can hear children giggle as they spin and play under the showers. Family and friends watch from the pavilion while the blooms of summer seem to dance in the salty Gulf breeze. A harmonious symphony of community fills the air on this small-town Saturday.

  • This time of year can be tough for all of us in the real estate industry and. We are in the middle of hurricane season which, as we all know, living on this beautiful coast can make things very difficult and stressful. One thing we all forget from time to time is to keep a positive outlook on things. Just remember that when life gives you lemons, don't fret about it - just make some wonderful refreshing lemonade! A good friend of mine recently opened my eyes. With all the hurricane damage in my hometown in Louisiana, it has been very depressing for me, but my friend said we need to just keep looking at the upside. He's so right! It takes more energy to be negative and down and frowning than it does to be happy and smiling and thinking positively. I just wanted to share those thoughts to possibly help brighten one person's day!

The beaches are waking up with the rise of the sun broadcasting colors you've never seen a painting capture. Pelicans are playfully diving for a seafood breakfast while statuesque herons wade patiently for their catch. The water could be mistaken for glass as the sun continues to rise over Long Beach on this beautiful morning. What a way to start off a day!

With plenty of growth along the Coast, Long Beach has managed to retain its clear horizons and picturesque appeal. Sure, a quick drive gets you to the neighboring cities of Gulfport or Biloxi for Casino entertainment and large chain shopping but don't overlook the rare qualities of Long Beach. This city offers residents all the necessary conveniences while holding on to its small-town Gulf Coast charm.
  • It's that time of year when there is so much love in the air and smiles on the faces of the community. There are red balloons at all the flower shops. That's right...it's Valentine's time of year!
The great thing about Long Beach is the beautiful beaches. A couple could enjoy walking in the sand, hand in hand, during a beautiful afternoon sunset. You could take an evening stroll down Jeff Davis Avenue. Let's all get in the loving, happy mood in Long Beach y'all!

Mardi Gras is big on the Gulf Coast, after all Mardi Gras began in our back yard, but the Long Beach night parade is huge! Floats roll through Downtown Long Beach, loud music, colorful decor, beads and more are flying to the spectators. People come from miles around to take part in the festival. This event is fun for everyone and is considered one of the safest events with the volume of guests attending, best of all it's free.

If you've never been to Downtown Long Beach I encourage you to go exploring. As a father of three boys (6, 3, 2) it's my responsibility to get our hair cuts and it's a chore I tell you. First, have you ever been to a barbershop with three small children and attempted to get your own cut? I'd challenge each of you Dad's out there to see which one of us makes it through it without something semi catastrophic happening. But, back to Downtown Long Beach. On Jeff Davis you'll find shops, restaurants, boutiques, and a barber shop. It's been here for as long as I can remember. And I'll tell you, out of everything I've done recently over the holidays, the trip to the barbershop was by far the most enjoyable trip. There are four barbers in the shop including a barber who prefers only to cut the hair of our little gentlemen. I was in and out with four hair cuts and three lollipops all for under $40! After the trip we walked the streets looking from store to store and even glanced in the Comic Book Shop (through the doorway, I wasn't prepared to lose that battle with my little guys).

Next time you need a cut, or you feel like stopping by - shop local! Visit them at 216 Jeff Davis Ave.

This magnificent oak tree dates back to 1487, when Christopher Columbus discovered the new world. Located on the beach road in Long Beach, the Friendship Oak is almost 60 feet tall with a trunk circumference of just under 20 feet. Legend has it that all who stand under this tree will remain friends for life.

While naming Long Beach the #1 place to live in Mississipi, they rave about the overall quality of life there. Well, I can't help but agree! I was born and raised in Long Beach. This small town is accredited with a low student to teacher ratio, boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the state, and is one of the most prosperous in terms of real estate desirability.
