October is probably the nicest time of the year to visit Bay St Louis with daily high temperatures in the 70s and low temps in the 50s. Walking the streets of Old Town can be enjoyed without the need to wipe your perspiration-filled brow or worrying about suffering from a heatstroke.

Along with the wonderful weather, Cruisin' The Coast starts the first Sunday of October and runs for eight consecutive days. Antique cars from years gone-by fill the streets of the Mississippi Gulf Coast with Bay St Louis being the favorite stop for most cruisers. The availability of restaurants, local watering holes, and shopping on the cruiser's main procession route creates a great atmosphere for all attending this event.

Spending the day looking over the hundreds of restored cars and eating some Mississippi Gulf Coast seafood while looking over the beautiful Bay St Louis Harbor is an enjoyable time that will be remembered for a long time. Many October visitors fall in love with Bay St Louis and decide to make this small town their permanent home, or at the very least, an annual place to visit.

Bay Saint Louis is about the most charming place in Mississippi. It took me years to discover "Old Town". I simply assumed my commute down Highway 90 was all of Bay Saint Louis. By all accounts, the fast food restaurants, retail stores and the likes are up on the main road, but the heart of the city begins on Main Street. At Main Street and Beach Boulevard you will find Hancock County's original bank, a harbor, restaurants with local cuisine, mom and pop shoppes, antiques, and if you stray a few steps any direction - tons of cottages and historic homes. Come visit soon.

If you take Beach Boulevard to the very end, you will end up in the Silver Slipper parking lot. This little gem is tucked away from the rest of the world, and it is a quaint casino with very good customer service. The newest addition to this casino is its hotel. Its plush rooms offer views of the beaches and bayous. The casino also offers hotel packages that can include golf and/or fishing charters. The Silver Slipper's RV park is beachfront, and very close to the state park. Silver Slipper offers three different dining options and they have some of the best crab legs on their buffet.

Their college preparatory program helps boys to excel in all academics while also grooming them to be gentlemen of great character. SSC also offers many sports programs, and many of these compete on the state level for championships. Their unique summer camp has programs that cater to boys and girls up to age 15, and include arts/crafts, swimming, sailing, archery, among many others. Another fun fact of this high school is it's mascot, the Rock-a-Chaw. A Rock-a-chaw is a fierce little sand burr, and it is artfully depicted on most of their literature.

Our Lady Academy is a private, all-girl school in Bay St. Louis. It excels in creating dynamic women that are grounded in independent thinking, sports and academics. OLA focuses on the unique qualities of each girl, and strives to help them reach their full potential in business and community. I attended this school from 7th-12th grade, and loved every aspect of it. There is a great sense of community within the campus. With the small class size, there is personalized attention that students get from the teachers to help them excel in whatever their passion may be!
