Petal has been known to be a great city with a small-town feel. It's close enough to Hattiesburg for residents to enjoy shopping, food, and education. As time goes on, Petal is now growing and opening new businesses for residents to enjoy. There are boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and more! On top of all that, Petal has one of the highest-ranked school districts in the state. Petal is growing every day!

It used to be expected that you'd make the short trip to Hattiesburg for most of your outings, but Petal residents are finding it easier to access entertainment, dining, and shopping without leaving the Friendly City. Several new restaurants have opened and there are three coffee shops in town now, plus clothing boutiques of different styles give residents access to fashion choices without going to West Hattiesburg. Not only are there more choices in the number of businesses choosing to call Petal home, but there is a growing number of recreational spaces and events open to the public. The Petal Farmer's Market is bigger and better this year after relocating from Relay Park to Main Street, and 2019 will be the second year for the Star Spangled Celebration on the River- a spectacular 4th of July fireworks celebration that takes place at Petal River Park.
  • Everyone likes the finer things in life, but love, comfort and safety are at the top of all our list. For a lot of people who live in the great state of Mississippi, safety isn't a major concern, yet we don't live in the safest state either. Mississippi is in the middle of the ranks. However, for years our lovely local city of Petal, "The Friendly City", has consistently been ranked in the top three safest cities to live in Mississippi.

Usually ranking at number one, the city of Petal is a growing, vibrant community known throughout the state for its award-winning schools and superb quality of life. Petal offers great schools, terrific recreational opportunities, and safe neighborhoods, as well as a hand of friendship to any and all who wish to join in as the residents of Petal build a brighter future together. If you are looking for a place to call home come check out the city of Petal.
  • The days will soon be cooling off and the smell of camp fires will be in the air. If you're looking for an escape to the wilderness, it's closer than you think. The Longleaf Horse Camp and Trails are located between Laurel and Richton, about 30 minutes from Petal and up Hwy 42, and then a left onto Hwy 15, entering into the Chickasawhay District of The DeSoto National Forest. This is not to be confused with The Longleaf Trace, "Rails to Trails."

This is one of my favorite places to go when I want to get away. I can hear the wind wooing me from on top of the Longleaf pines, to go a little deeper into the nature to clear the clutter from my mind. It doesn't get much better than when I'm out there in the woods on my loyal mount with a group of friends. Hope you enjoy. Life is good.
  • Petal was recently ranked the safest city in Mississippi, and crime rates dipped another 37.5% in 2015. With a top-five ranked school system, almost non-existent crime, and a growing number of dining and shopping options, Petal is an extremely desirable place for families and is growing in popularity among home shoppers.

Petal is a close knit community and still has that small town feel, but it is growing in popularity with homebuyers. Everyone in the area knows how high Petal Schools are ranked. Petal High School won the US News Bronze award based on test scores and student-teacher ratio. Petal High School is grades 9-12 and has approximately 1100 students. Because of the school's popularity many great new neighborhoods have been developed over the last few years, such as Trailwood, Pecan Lakes, North Fork, South Fork, Edgemere, and Longleaf.

This growing little town has plenty to offer, with several mom and pop shops/restaurants, but still several chains. There is plenty local to choose from. However, if you want even more options, Petal is located only 10 minutes from Hattiesburg. Petal is fast growing, but still has that small town feel! During football season, on game day, the high school front lawn is covered with tents and tailgaters of supportive Petalites getting pumped for the game, ready to holler for their Petal Panthers!
