Newks Eatery, located on Hwy 98 across from Merit Health Hospital, is a lunch favorite for all of Hattiesburg. Newks is far from your average franchise, and it's way beyond ordinary. With an open kitchen, you can truly see how they handcraft every dressing, toss every salad, and bake every sandwich/pizza to order. Salads ranging from the Newks Favorite covered in tender chicken, artichoke, cranberries, nuts, and homemade vinaigrette to the “Black and Blue“ Salad filled with pecans, blue cheese crumbles, and marinated steak, Newks truly offers a salad for any occasion! Daily soups like Chicken Tortilla, loaded potato, and my favorite, the lobster bisque, make the perfect combo for a soup and salad treat!

Their sandwiches and pizzas are no joke either! From your classic ham and Swiss, stacked club, and other delicious bites comes my personal favorite; the Newks Q. Made with in-house White BBQ sauce, an assortment of melted cheese, marinated chicken, and crispy bacon, the pizza and sandwich game at Newks is top tier! They have not forgotten the pizza lovers, not the Gluten-free clients; they have you covered! My favorites are the Newks Q and the spicy shrimp pizza. Even better, all of these items can be called in to go and even catered! There is a reason why Newks is the hottest lunch spot in Hattiesburg, so don’t miss out; treat yourself to a scrumptious and wholesome lunch that will surely please any appetite!

Half Shell Oyster House has been a seafood favorite in Hattiesburg since 2013 and continues to attract people from all over the Pine Belt for its amazingly fresh Gulf seafood with an intense New Orleans influence. The oysters at Half Shell are the freshest money can buy in the Pine Belt and are infused in all areas of the menu. The renowned oysters consist of oysters on the half shell, the classic Oysters Rockefeller, Half Shell's signature charbroiled oysters, their award winning Oysters Orleans flame broiled in a smoky Cajun sauce, and my personal favorite, the Oysters Bienville broiled with fresh shrimp, crab, and a signature mixture of herbs and bread crumbs.

Not only are the oysters the freshest on the market, but the fish is right there with them! Their New Orleans influenced Redfish, Grouper, Snapper, and Yellowfin Tuna are cooked in fresh Cajun ingredients and topped with fresh Gulf shellfish in an array of dishes. These delicious creations range from but are not limited to; Redfish Orleans topped with fresh Gulf shrimp, sashimi grade Grilled Yellowfin Tuna with lemon aioli, and my personal favorite Snapper Lameuse topped with fresh shrimp, crawfish, crab meat and homemade alfredo.

Last but not least, the scrumptious Sunday brunch and in-house desserts will have you crawling back for more. The brunch is seafood infused with entrees such as lobster scrambled eggs and crab cakes half shell and my favorite dessert in Hattiesburg, the Cinnamon Roll Bread pudding! Come enjoy Hattiesburg's favorite seafood restaurant today! They are located at 6555 US-98 #1, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. Phone number: (601) 296-7901 or you can visit their website below.

In 2012, Hattiesburg became home to one of the state's finest restaurants, Cotton Blues. They support local dairies and farms and everything on Cotton Blues menu is from the
home state of Mississippi. Cotton Blues is truly known for two things on the menu; their
handcrafted in house desserts, and Buzzfeed's 2017 best ranked Brunch in the state of
Mississippi. The brunch menu incorporates everything from local Quail & Cornbread Benedict, to my personal favorite, the infamous Lobster Scramble. Cotton Blues is sure to please the taste buds of even the pickiest of eaters!

Pier 98 is an excellent restaurant that offers live music on the weekends. The food is exceptional especially the pecan crusted redfish. Pier 98 also offers a variety of craft beers and many specialty drinks. The atmosphere is great and Josh will make sure that you have a wonderful experience. So the next time you are in the Oak Grove, area stop by and say hello!
  • The Secret Gallery Market Place tucked in a cozy corner of Newpointe Shopping Center in the Oak Grove community of Hattiesburg is a secret worth exploring. The upscale booths of merchandise are a delight to browse. Each cozy nook has its own unique personality from antique furniture, pottery, lovely prints, fashionable jewelry, both locally and nationally made, candles, accessories and clothing such as scarves, cover-ups, dresses, and tops. You can get in and out pretty quickly or take time to meander, whichever meets your need. The calm atmosphere and items that have their own personal spin make it worth the while to visit.

Forty-one miles of historic railway converted into a beautiful, paved, recreational nature trail begins at the University of Southern Mississippi and goes to Prentiss. Today, the route is again active, as cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians ply the trail's smooth, well-maintained surface. Eight small covered rest areas along the route provide travelers with shade, restrooms and vending machines, while three small shelters offer places to wait out brief summer rain showers.

Start your trip at the Trace gateway on the Southern Miss campus, where welcome center staff can offer advice, provide maps and help visitors identify the many tree species that line the route, including the namesake longleaf pine. Bike rentals and parking are available here.

Over the first few miles, the trail negotiates several tunnels and bridges. Leaving Hattiesburg behind, you'll progress through a range of quintessentially Southern landscapes, from piney woods and wetlands to small lakes and charming towns!
  • For years West Hattiesburg has been the home to the largest growth spurt in Hattiesburg. New retail businesses and new residences continue to develop to meet the demand for the residents of Hattiesburg. Many will refer to West Hattiesburg/Oak Grove as the "hot spot" in Hattiesburg. In the 2015 year new developments including a large new medic clinic, new restaurants, retail developments, banks, pharmacies and expanding residential communities are just a few of the items slated. It is exciting to see the continued growth of Hattiesburg as it continues to be one of the top retirement cities in America.
