The Johnston Hill Creamery is located just off North Lamar on White Oak Lane. This is a specialty shop including cheeses from local products. They also offer a wide range of fermented products, from vinegar, hot sauces, miso pastes, and many more items, and most of their items are made right in the shop. It is well worth a visit to Johnston Hill Creamery - free parking. They also offer cheese-making classes when time permits.

Unique gourmet market and gift shop. Oxford is thrilled to welcome a gourmet chef providing breakfast, lunch, and a coffee bar. The chef offers gourmet cooking classes and the gift shop offers a stable of elegant olive oils and vinegars. They are located on South Lamar in downtown Oxford.

Throughout my years at the University of Mississippi, I had a lot of time to think about why a person would want to come to school here, and Oxford is one of the biggest reasons. It was named a top 6 college town by USA Today, the number one small town in America, top arts scene, top culinary scene, and so much more. We're a town of about 20,000. We offer one of, if not the, top school system (city and county) in the state. We're the home of William Faulkner and his fictional county, Yoknapatawpha, which is based on our county, Lafayette. We have the top independent bookstore in the nation in Square Books and its siblings, Off Square Books, Square Books Jr, and Rare Square Books. John Grisham sold his first book out of the trunk of his car in front of Square Books! Heck, the former Poet Laureate of Mississippi lives here!

We have the only live show broadcast statewide each week during the school year in the Thacker Mountain Radio show (author readings, music, house band, commentary - lots of fun!) There are probably more writers a year who come through here to do readings and sign books than any town our size in the world.

We are the county seat, home to the annual Faulkner Conference (scholarly), Double Decker Arts Festival (arts, crafts, food, fun, GREAT MUSIC), Southern Foodways Festival (scholarly and fun), the Conference for the Book (how to write, publish, etc - celebrating the craft and trappings of writing), and the Annual Oxford Film Festival (local, national and international independent films shown and discussed - kind of like a smaller more intimate version of Robert Redford's Sundance in Colorado). There is more entertainment, including incredible live music all over town, about 6 nights a week. We are the home of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture, own BB King's personal blues archive, and are on the Blues Train!

There are about 150 places to eat, many of which are unique to just our town and offer a huge variety of incredible food (we have not one but two James Beard award-winning chefs that live and work here!), as well as Sonic, McDonald's, and more.

Oxford has wonderful parks, bike and hiking trails, hunting, fishing, every outdoor activity you could imagine, and I hear even ax-throwing! We have art galleries, specialty stores of all kinds, many different religions, have many historic buildings, and are a melting pot of people, with students from all over the world and all 50 states.

We are situated near the largest man-made reservoir in north Mississippi for you fishermen. You can camp there, waterski, and sail, too. We are 1 hour and 10 minutes from Memphis and the largest commercial airport in the world, about 2.5 hours from the State capital, Jackson, 3 hours from Birmingham, 3.5 hours to Little Rock and Nashville, and about 5.5 hours to St. Louis, New Orleans, Atlanta, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Oxford is as unique a small town as you'll find. Wrapped in beautiful rolling hills, with four distinct seasons, broad tree-lined main streets, and cute neighborhoods all over! Hey...I'm not done! We don't have some things: high crime, traffic, floods, wildfires, earthquakes, hurricanes, famine, blizzards, and pestilence. Okay - we do have the occasional tornado, and some recent heavy rains, but we are safe from pandemic weather.

The University of Mississippi has about 22,000 students and offers SEC athletics, the number one athletic conference top to bottom in the nation. There is gorgeous natural topography, and it has been named the most beautiful campus in America 3 different times in the last 10 years or so. Did I mention Ole Miss has been named a top transfer student campus by PTK International? They have been one of the top universities to work for every year they have had the category. Ole Miss is a Purple Heart University, which is tops for veterans.

Our medical center in Jackson is the only level one trauma center in the state, and performed the world's first heart and lung transplant in a human. I haven't yet mentioned a beautiful new Baptist Memorial Hospital with an incredible array of medical specialists and personnel anywhere.

Folks, I am barely scratching the surface! If you have never been here and are intrigued, come visit and tour the town, and you'll find all the information you need. We love our town!

Do you ever wonder what makes someone love a place? I do. I've been many places, but Mississippi will always be home - particularly the Mississippi Delta. Although, all of Mississippi is pretty friendly, the Delta is different. A little more... tell it like it is, but also a little more lively. Good people, big hearts, very welcoming. We are a breed of our own.

Move a Delta Girl to the big City of Oxford, MS and what happens? She grows even more. More knowledge, more experiences and even more savvy. I call Oxford the land of opportunity. Opportunity to meet people from all over who enlarge one's perspectives, cultures, and thoughts. Opportunity to meet people with so many different career paths that stir that creative nature inside. Opportunity to learn about what makes Ole Miss so great!

Early on when moving to Oxford, I met an alumni of Ole Miss. Beautiful lady who invited me and a friend into her home. She spoke of how her and her husband met at Ole Miss and had a group of friends they met while students there. They had remained friends all these years and had bought the house together to always come back to their Alma Mater and gather. She showed us numerous albums with pictures of them through the years. Her husband listened quietly in the next room. I have to say I felt blessed she shared with us so freely.

Fast forward 10 years and I show a small cabin of my aunt and uncle's in the Delta. A great group of young duck hunters from Alabama - might I add a group of um...Crimson Tide fans. During our discussion over and hour, one of the guys said, "You know, we are friendly in Alabama, but, there is something different here. We have come across people from many cultures and economic levels while visiting Greenwood and different areas in Mississippi. By far, they are just the friendliest and so welcoming." Yes, I stood a little taller and said, "Yes, we are like that in Mississippi."

So, no matter where you are from and whatever bad wrap Mississippi has, it is noticed, it does matter. Mississippi is a special place. And yes, we are proud of it!

If you are looking for a refreshing morning walk, why not try the Oxford Square and downtown area? This time of year is a special time in Oxford. So many opportunities await visitors and residents. I personally love to get up early and take a morning stroll around the square. The store windows are all decorated and twinkling for the holidays. Lights are strung all around the area. It feels like walking in a Charles Dickens book or a Hallmark movie. It's the perfect time to reflect on personal development and make plans for the future. It always makes my gratitude list. So, if you live in the Oxford area or are planning a visit, make it a point to wake up early and hit the square for a morning adventure! I hope to see you there!

This abandoned "train station" under the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York makes a great name for a "restaurant" with culinary-driven-Italian-American fare and locally owned. It is open for lunch from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Dinner is served from 5:00-9:30 p.m. but closed on Sunday. Recommendation "Kale or Hepburn Salad " with a " Brooklyn Burger" or "Adult Grilled Cheese".

Oxford is known for the best restaurants in North Mississippi. "Southern Craft Stove & Tap" is locally owned. They are open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. everyday of the week. A great place for Sunday Brunch with several breakfast items on the menu plus delicious vegetables, pot roast and much more. Music by the Mississippians Jazz Ensemble! The goal of the market is to highlight the diverse resources and talents of our community. The market will feature music, food, and activities that connect the community. A mix of neighborhood block party and market, the market will offer entertainment while showcasing unique products from artisans, craftspeople, and farms.

The Neon Pig in Oxford is one of the best burger restaurants in America. Also, you may stop in and select meat and seafood to cook at home on your own grill. They offer a delicious selection of desserts, jams and special seasonings too. If you decide to eat there, you may dine inside or outside but go early there might be a line - but it's worth the wait!

The Taco Shop has been at this location for about five years. The owners are really nice and the food is homemade. Everything is served with fresh lime. You may eat inside or outside. Many families come weekly for a meal with their friends.

Handy Andy Cafe has served the local community of Oxford for more than 30 years because of their delicious BBQ and hamburgers. This is one of my favorites in Oxford. It is definitely worth your time to stop by for a visit.

Oxford, located in the heart of Mississippi, is about 90 minutes south of Memphis, 120 minutes north of Jackson (the state capital), 45 minutes west of Tupelo, and 25 minutes east of Batesville. Once you arrive in Oxford you will find it easy to get around!

North Lamar Avenue and South Lamar Avenue are the main arteries that runs through the heart of "The Square" (downtown). University Avenue and Jackson Avenue are the two surface roads providing main arteries that run east and west connecting into The Square. Highway 6 and Highway 7 run through Oxford intersecting on the southeast side of town. Hwy 6 runs east to Pontotoc/Tupelo and west to Batesville. Highway 7 runs north to Holly Springs, and south to Water Valley. Highway 30 connects Hwy 7 going northeast through New Albany, to the Natchez Trace Parkway.

This area is enhanced by rolling hills, beautiful countryside, peaceful ponds and lakes. You will love gorgeous sunsets complete with twinkling stars, plus beautiful, quiet sunrises! An awe-inspired place to be and call home!

Oxford offers many opportunities for artist and for art lovers. This year from August 6 -9 the Yocanpatawpha Arts Council will feature it's second annual Fringe Festival, this year known as the " Arter Limits". The Fringe Festival features artists and art that are non traditional!

The Big Bad Restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch with a great menu. It was listed by Travel & Leisure as one of the top 10 "Best Breakfasts".
Around The World. We were just there today and I like the biscuits and their house cured bacon. I also love the tomato gravy and the waitress also ask if you need a coffee to go. Wonderful experience.

The Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library is a Regional Library sharing information with surrounding areas such as Batesville Public Library, Coffeeville Public Library, Pontotoc County Library, Marshall County and the J D Williams Library.

The Oxford Art Guild has its annual art exhibit on display during the month of February in honor of Frances Mc Ewen who is one of the Guilds' founding members and with approximately 100 current members.

One of the great treasures of Oxford MS are the different seasons, and sometimes our winters will look like an ice village for only about three days each year. This year it came in February and everyone is out making photos because it will disappear soon.
