I don't even know if I can totally capture in writing what is going on in McComb this week! As Director of Keep Pike County Beautiful, calls are coming in to the office with locals wanting to help clean up the streets and walkways as American Idol's LaPorsha Renae is coming home. The Town of McComb is expecting some 8,000-10,000 guests to visit Pike County with the destination being the McComb High School Football Field to catch a close glimpse of LaPorsha in concert.

So I hear, these homecoming TV focus shows of the contestants, can stir up everything. The gas stations and restaurants are anticipating a need for more inventory. Hotels expect to be packed. Can you imagine how much activity the ATM's will get? It is exciting, I tell ya! Her name is on yard signs, windows and store fronts.

In Pike County, our crowds don't protest - they welcome you home with a glass of sweet tea and a chair on the porch. Come join us in celebration of LaPorsha Renae's success. I tell ya, it is going to be a blast!

The last five minutes in church today it was hard to keep my mind off of dinner - since I didn't have time to eat breakfast. Dinner is what you eat at noon in the South, and always a social time to catch up with church friends at the table. Today, we decided to take the ride to McComb for dinner at Mr. Whiskers. Mr. Whiskers is truly a family restaurant in a rustic decor building. It has a wrap around porch with benches and rocking chairs to sit and enjoy. The inside walls are decorated with antique signs, car tags, and other memorabilia of days gone by. It is a mom and pop Cracker Barrel. Their popular menu items are catfish, coleslaw and fried dill pickles among other items. Sunday is a buffet of home style cooking. Like my friend said, "the one day we get our vegetables".

My plate was full of fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, turnip greens, macaroni and cheese, fried squash, pecan pie, and sweet tea.My New Year's Resolution was to enjoy the things God gave us. Dinner at Mr. Whiskers, you can do that for sure! .

The Thanksgiving holiday can be sad for many folks. It is a time we all enjoyed growing up eating Mom's cooking. I am most sure there is no other dressing like Mom's dressing tasted. This year, I am headed to Piccadilly Restaurant for my favorite foods! The grown children will be spending the holiday with the in-laws to be fair. For those that are in the same situation - it is a great alternative. Piccadilly offers a great hand served buffet all year long. My plate will be loaded with turkey and dressing, carrot soufflé, cranberry sauce, green beans, roll and the best chocolate mousse pie!

The Ice house Night Club is located in the heart of McComb. If you want to relax and hear some good music, this is the spot. It can get crowded so try to get there early. So the next time you wanna get out, try the Ice House.

The Dinner Bell is a restaurant that lets strangers sit and socialize. If you like a friendly atmosphere please come to the Dinner Bell.

I bought my first brand new car from this dealership. If you want a dealership with sale agents that know about vehicles call them asap. This dealership is located in McComb, right off Interstate 55 Come on down and get that new vehicle!

This is a great school that will provide a good education with a Christian based development for your child. It's a place where your child is not grouped but seen for their individual needs, interest, talents, and abilities. Find a great home in the South with a great place for an education for your child.

McComb has a few different parks that are open to the public. Central Park is located in the middle of town and it's a nice location for the children to enjoy some play time. This park includes splash pads, tennis courts, playground, picnic tables, and park benches. The kids will enjoy the splash pad, especially at this park with the extremely hot summer days we have been having.

A great dinner in the middle of Downtown McComb! They have daily lunch specials and amazing desserts, especially their homemade Cheese cake in many different flavors. Go enjoy a good meal, I promise you won't regret it!

If you want some good fried Catfish... you can find it here in McComb, MS at Mr. Wisker's. This restaurant has a country feel to it with wood tables and chairs for you and your friends or family to sit and enjoy great food and fellowship. They also have a beautiful front porch with rocking chairs to enjoy while you wait to be seated. Enjoy some good ole catfish and sweet tea at this great place.

The Amtrak station is a train station in McComb, MS. The station has been here since the 1900's but has been restored several times. It has an inside waiting area, and a museum that you can enjoy while you wait on your train. If you love to travel we have a great train station to take you where you need to go.

For the 4th of July, our area will have a giant fireworks display at Southwest Mississippi Community College this weekend. This is a new event for the area and I hope it will become a tradition.Who doesn't like fireworks? I hope to see a huge turnout from the community.

The Mississippi Country Music erected a marker celebrating Jerry Clower's contribution to Country Music. His marker is located less than a mile away from his home off Route 4. Liberty
knew Jerry Clower personally and was honored to video the dedication. We are so lucky to have a Country Music Trail marker in our area. Jerry Clower was a good kindhearted man and I am proud that he was from my area of Southwest Mississippi. Enjoy the video

To relax and enjoy an afternoon the Fernwood Country Club is my favorite place to go. Fernwood Country Club has a storied and rich tradition dating back to1924. Several generations have enjoyed recreation and fellowship and created memories at this historic Mississippi club.

If you want to eat the best Chinese food in town please try China Palace in McComb. If you want gourmet Chinese food this is the best in town. I have eaten Chinese in many states and none compare to China Palace. Please try it out - you won't regret it!

Edgewood Mall is located in McComb. I love shopping and eating at this mall. There are several popular department stores located in this mall such as Belk, Goody's, Ashley Furniture, J.C. Penny, and Foot locker. I love this mall because the whole family can find what they want here.

McComb has a building for children to be entertained with laser tag and mini golfing. The location is 1221 Parklane Roa in McComb. The business was a positive improvement to McComb because there are not many places to take the children for fun and entertainment. The pricing for games varies, but for more information call 601-6804450. Several comments on their Facebook site states that it is better to get the armbands for the best bargain.

Mainstreet Dance Company is one of the dance studios in the McComb area. Their instructor has a four year degree in lyrical dancing and the dancers can began learning at the age of four and continue dancing at this studio until graduating from high school. The teachers teach in different areas. Some of the areas are ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, cheerleading, gymnastics pointe dancing etc. Anyone interested in participating in this dance studio needs to contact the studio at 601-684-9222. There are different prices for classes and it depends on age etc. There are also several other dance studios to choose from but this particular studio is located on Main Street in downtown McComb next to the train station.
