Laurel is a city that has a great arts community, starting with Lauren Rogers. This year is the 100th anniversary of the museum's opening! It features American and European art, Native American Art, Japanese Woodblock Prints, and British Georgian Silver along with temporary exhibits that keep visitors returning. Most amazing is that the museum doesn't have an admission fee but is run by donations and other charitable contributions. Don't miss this gem and become a part of the arts community in Laurel, MS.

We recently visited Landrum's Homestead & Village for a field trip with my daughter's school. It was so much fun exploring the place. The village is full of homes and buildings that you would have seen in the 1900's. There was homemade buttermilk biscuits, mining, a carriage ride, and more. We also had really good food for lunch. In the gift shop, there were plenty of nice gifts available. In fact, I bought some goat milk that smells amazing and leaves my skin soft. If you need somewhere to take your family, this is the place!

Laurel's Amtrak station was built in 1913 in the heart of downtown by the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad companies. This National Registered Historic Place is still in service today. You can hop the Crescent passenger train in Laurel and head towards the east coast or south towards New Orleans. This wonderfully restored station is served by two daily trains.

Downstairs, you'll find the latest trends in furniture and decor, plus wonderfully unique artisanal products (i.e. pottery, paintings, etc.). Laurel celebrated it's annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Pinehurst Park on December 4th. Friends and neighbors, once again, gathered to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season as they sipped on hot chocolate and apple cider. The Laurel High School Choir delighted the crowd with Christmas Carols and Laurel Ballet Academy danced beautifully to welcome in the Christmas spirit!

Did you know that Laurel is the home to the oldest art museum in Mississippi? The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art opened in 1923 as a tribute to Lauren Eastman Rogers. It's located in Laurel's beautiful, tree lined historical district.

Sanderson Farms is the third largest poultry producer in the United States, and their headquarters is right here in Laurel, MS! This makes them the only Fortune 1000 company located in the great state of Mississippi. They are a large part of our community, as well as other production facilities founded in or moving to our area.

The Lauren Rogers Art Museum was established in 1923 and became the State of Mississippi's first art museum. The oak lined streets of 5th Avenue and turn-of-the-century homes draw you to this beautiful specimen of Georgian Revival architecture. Through the years, the museum has had wonderful collections visit, but it mainly focuses on its permanent collection. You and your family can visit The Lauren Rogers Art Museum for free, but they welcome any donations to keep the spirit of one of Mississippi's historical sites alive. If you are a trained artist searching to refine your skills or an aspiring artist or craftsman, the museum often holds classes to polish your craft.

Wow! Laurel made history this year 2015, as we initiated our 1st Annual Mardi Gras parade. There was an overwhelming response full of fun and excitement as area businesses and individuals participated with decorated floats and vehicles. Beads were thrown and Mardi Gras music adorned the streets of the beautiful, historic downtown streets. Join us for this fun event in January!

The scenery in Downtown Laurel fulfills every desire to see what one considers The South. Come celebrate Laurel's heritage as a Sawmill town on the first Saturday in October. Our Annual Loblolly Festival is an exciting tradition with vendors, artists, entertainment and food. Located in Laurel's Business District on Main Street. There have been many renovations reflecting the character of the beautiful buildings downtown. We love our Historic Downtown Laurel!
